Ask how hours are documented

Confirm who signs the log, whether a letterhead completion letter is available, whether weekly signatures are required, and whether the organization can verify dates and total hours.

Check role restrictions

Some roles may be restricted because of background screening, offense type, client contact, youth contact, animal contact, driving, cash handling, tools, remote work, or site policy.

Faith-based locations

Hours are more likely to be reviewed as community service when the work is non-religious and benefits the broader community, such as food pantry, clothing closet, cleanup, meal service, or facility support.

Avoid double-counting

Do not assume hours will count if you are paid, receive school credit, work for a family member, complete unsupervised remote tasks, or volunteer at a site that cannot independently verify your hours.
