Inside Mississippi’s $104 Million Rural Health Transformation Awards
CMS announced more than $104 million across 167 Mississippi rural-health grants for technology modernization, care-gap closure and telehealth, including expanded behavioral-health services and access.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced more than $104 million in Rural Health Transformation Program funding for Mississippi on September 15, 2026. The investment supports 167 grants spanning healthcare technology and cybersecurity, expanded clinical services and facility improvements, and telehealth and remote-patient-monitoring capacity.
$47.4 million for technology and cybersecurity
CMS says 97 grants totaling approximately $47.4 million will help rural providers modernize aging technology, strengthen cybersecurity and data protection, improve interoperability, and adopt tools intended to reduce administrative burden and support safer care.
The technology portfolio includes electronic-health-record upgrades and other infrastructure modernization across rural providers.
$43.3 million to close rural care gaps
Another 43 grants totaling nearly $43.3 million will expand access to surgical and specialty care, diagnostic imaging, maternal care, behavioral-health services and other clinical services.
CMS also says this funding will support facility and equipment improvements needed to maintain access to care in rural communities.
$13.4 million for telehealth and remote patient monitoring
Twenty-seven grants totaling nearly $13.4 million will expand telehealth and remote-patient-monitoring capabilities. CMS says the projects are intended to connect rural residents with primary care, behavioral health, specialty care and chronic-disease-management services closer to home.
Where behavioral health appears
Behavioral health is not presented as a separate dollar category in the CMS announcement. Instead, it appears inside two of the three funded portfolios.

Mississippi’s broader Rural Health Transformation plan includes regional integration of hospitals, EMS, public health and social services; health-IT modernization; workforce expansion; telehealth infrastructure; and capital investments that include psychiatric emergency services. CMS-hosted state materials also identify behavioral-health access as part of the planned regional care model.
